Public Speaking — Level 1

Communication is one of the keys to a successful life. Our ability to convey and receive messages can impact our peace of mind, our chances for upward mobility in the world of work and school, and our self-confidence. Becoming a better public speaker is a gift that you can give yourself. The dividend that it will pay will impact your life for years to come.

◆ Course Objectives

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • ◆ Control your public speaking anxiety with confidence.
  • ◆ Listen actively and respond with greater awareness.
  • ◆ Deliver a 3 to 5 minute presentation, with or without a full-length script.
  • ◆ Speak confidently for 60 seconds on a topic not previously assigned — to introduce someone at a gathering, offer a short prayer, or express words of appreciation on behalf of a group.

At the end of this four-week course, Informative Public Speaking (Basic — Level 1), you will receive a Certificate of Completion. To earn the certificate you will need to:

  • ◆ Attend not less than 75% of the classes (please aim for 100% attendance).
  • ◆ Complete not less than two presentations within the safety of the classroom environment.
  • ◆ Complete one outreach activity.
